Geisinger Medical Center has been named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2025. The list, comprising 444 hospitals, was determined based on a detailed evaluation involving a national survey of healthcare professionals, analysis of patient experience surveys, and assessments of hospital quality metrics, particularly those related to maternity care.

The Geisinger Medical Center was among 182 hospitals that received five ribbons, reflecting scores greater than 84% in quality metrics and patient experience, alongside a reputation score exceeding 71%. In 2024, the hospital in Danville reported the birth of 1,850 babies.

“Geisinger Medical Center’s recognition for maternity care is a tribute to our dedicated staff of physicians and caregivers who are working to make our hospital the best,” stated Sandra Culbertson, MD, chair of the Geisinger Women and Children’s Institute. She added, “Our maternity teams are committed to delivering the highest quality maternity care every day, and we look forward to continuing to provide this excellent care.”

Geisinger is a leading provider of value-based care, serving 1.2 million people across Pennsylvania. Established in 1915, the non-profit system encompasses 134 care sites, including 10 hospital campuses, and manages Geisinger Health Plan with 600,000 members. With an annual revenue of $10 billion, Geisinger also operates the Geisinger College of Health Sciences, which educates over 5,000 medical professionals each year. The organization conducts more than 1,400 clinical research studies and employs 26,000 individuals, including 1,600 physicians, contributing an estimated $14 billion to Pennsylvania’s economy. On March 31, 2024, Geisinger became part of Risant Health, a nonprofit organization aimed at forwarding value-based care nationwide.
