Geisinger is set to enhance specialty care in Lewisburg with the construction of a new cancer center near Bucknell University. The $32 million facility aims to expand services, bring new providers, and offer better access to care for the local community and surrounding areas.

“There’s a clear benefit to receiving care close to home — especially specialized treatment like cancer services,” stated Megan Brosious, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Geisinger. She emphasized the importance of investing in facilities and programs so that residents of the central Susquehanna Valley can receive convenient care.

Site preparations have commenced along Route 15 in East Buffalo Township for a two-story, 40,000-square-foot building. This will house the cancer center on its first floor, replacing Geisinger’s current space at 75 Medical Park Drive in Kelly Township.

As the population ages and cancer diagnoses occur earlier, there is an increasing demand for comprehensive cancer care services. The new facility will enhance offerings at the existing location by expanding some services and spaces. Scheduled to open in 2026, it will feature 12 exam rooms, 15 infusion stations, external beam radiation, and treatment planning. An outpatient clinic will provide medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, and Geisinger’s first palliative care clinic in Union County.

The location facilitates seamless transitions when patients require advanced services at nearby Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

“Growing our presence in Union County is another step toward making sure our patients never have to leave the region for outstanding cancer care,” said Rajiv Panikkar, M.D., chair of the Geisinger Cancer Institute. He highlighted that their program features top-tier providers who collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create treatment plans while offering patients access to cutting-edge technologies and clinical trials.

This development is part of Geisinger's ongoing efforts to improve access to specialized care across the region. The organization continues exploring opportunities for further investments throughout Union County.
