Geisinger hosts colorectal cancer awareness event with expert panel discussions

Geisinger College of Health Sciences is organizing an event titled "Colorectal Cancer: Prevention, Treatment & A Path Forward" on March 19 at 6 p.m. in the College Auditorium. This initiative is part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and involves a collaboration with Scranton City Mayor Paige Cognetti, Wilkes-Barre City Mayor George C. Brown, and the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.

The event will feature a panel discussion moderated by Samuel Lesko, MD, MPH, medical director of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute. The panel includes Joseph P. Bannon, MD from Geisinger specializing in colon and rectal surgery; Christopher A. Peters, MD from Northeast Radiation Oncology Center focusing on radiation oncology; Amber L. Sobuto, DO from Hematology & Oncology Associates of NEPA specializing in medical oncology and hematology; and Michael Kondash, DO from PrimeMed Medical Group who practices family medicine.

Attendees will also hear personal testimonials from individuals affected by colorectal cancer, including Aimee Kearney and Matthew Stopper, MD.
