HARRISBURG – A roadway project in the 109th Legislative District received a significant boost as it was awarded $500,000 in Multimodal Transportation Funding through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), as announced by Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-Columbia) on Mar. 27, 2024.
Franklin Township in Columbia County was the recipient of this grant funding, aimed at repairing and paving three local roads. Leadbeter expressed his satisfaction with the allocation, stating, "It's about time we see public resources rightfully returning to Columbia County and our cherished rural communities, rather than continually being siphoned off to the big urban centers like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.”
Culver, another stakeholder in the project, highlighted the significance of the state grant dollars in easing the financial burden on local taxpayers, saying, “These state grant dollars will help pay to repair and pave these three roads without further burdening local taxpayers.”
The grants awarded by the CFA are determined based on various criteria such as safety benefits, economic conditions, feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency, and sustainability. The Multimodal Transportation Fund, through which these grants are provided, aims to promote economic development and ensure a safe and reliable transportation system for the residents of the Commonwealth.
The initiative reflects a commitment to addressing local infrastructure needs and supporting the communities that rely on these roadways daily. With this funding injection, the project in the 109th Legislative District is poised to make significant progress towards enhancing transportation infrastructure in the region.
