Continued construction at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, will lead to a temporary change in the hospital's traffic pattern starting Friday, February 28. The northern section of Medical Center Drive will be closed from the entrance of Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital to Pleasant Street, just before the main entrance known as Abigail.
During this period, vehicles will use the southern part of Medical Center Drive as a two-way road and turn right on Pleasant Street to access the hospital's main entrance. This temporary arrangement is expected to last until Friday, March 7, when the road relocation project concludes with a new permanent traffic pattern.
Signage and flagger staff will be present to guide traffic throughout this temporary phase. Visitors and staff are advised to remain vigilant due to increased traffic on campus during the ongoing construction project, which is set to continue over the next few years. Travelers should allow extra time for potential delays caused by construction activities.
Geisinger is recognized as one of the nation's leading providers of value-based care, serving 1.2 million people across urban and rural communities in Pennsylvania. Founded in 1915 by philanthropist Abigail Geisinger, it operates as a non-profit system generating $10 billion annually across 134 care sites, including ten hospital campuses. The organization also runs Geisinger Health Plan with 600,000 members and educates over 5,000 medical professionals each year through its College of Health Sciences.
With an employment base of 26,000 individuals including 1,600 physicians, Geisinger ranks among Pennsylvania's largest employers with an estimated economic impact of $14 billion on the state's economy. On March 31, 2024, Geisinger became part of Risant Health—a new nonprofit organization aimed at expanding value-based care nationwide.
