HARRISBURG - State Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver and Representative David Rowe have announced the approval of a grant totaling nearly $90,000 for the improvement of Faylor Lake in Snyder County. The grant, provided through the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program, will fund the construction of an equine trail, boardwalk, and observation deck at Faylor Lake.
"Faylor Lake is a regional asset providing outdoor recreational opportunities for children and adults from our area," said Culver. "This state grant will enhance the experience offered to Faylor Lake visitors. The state grant funding for this project will improve the overall quality of our region without placing any additional burden on local taxpayers."
Snyder County will receive the grant funding and contribute 15% of the total project cost. The improvements to Faylor Lake aim to attract more visitors and enhance their recreational experience.
"These awards highlight some of the many assets that make Snyder County and the 85th District such a great place to live, work, and raise a family," added Rowe. "From outdoor recreation to a robust agriculture industry, these awards will go a long way toward boosting our state and local economy."
The funding for the grant comes from the 2012 law that established an impact fee on Marcellus Shale natural gas wells. The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
In addition to the grant for Faylor Lake, Culver and Rowe also announced the approval of two loans through the DCED First Industries Fund (FIF). The loans, totaling $625,000, will support the growth of local farms and contribute to the state's agriculture industry.
"These loans are an investment in Pennsylvania's No. 1 industry, agriculture, and will promote growth in our local economy," said Culver. "These loans enable local farms to grow and compete in the marketplace."
The Small Enterprise Development Agency Council of Governments (SEDA-COG) has been awarded a $400,000 loan to acquire a 99-acre farm in Monroe Township, Juniata County. Another $225,000 loan has been awarded to SEDA-COG to acquire a 74-acre farm in Monroe Township, Snyder County. The loans can be used for various purposes such as land acquisition, building construction, machinery and equipment purchase or upgrade, and working capital.
The grants and loans announced by Culver and Rowe demonstrate the commitment of the Pennsylvania government to support both recreational improvements and the growth of the agriculture industry. These investments will have a positive impact on the local economy and contribute to the overall development of Snyder County and the 85th District.
