State grants over $2.2 million awarded for projects in Columbia County

State Rep. Robert Leadbeter has announced grants exceeding $2.2 million for significant projects in Columbia County to enhance infrastructure and safety. These funds will support various community needs, providing necessary resources for local families.

Leadbeter stated, "I’m proud to announce these critical grants that will help our local communities. Columbia County is home to hard-working families who deserve safe public spaces and properly maintained infrastructure that will support a thriving community. These investments help us build a brighter future for our families, support the local economy, and preserve the vitality of Columbia County."

The funding details include $80,316 for Benton Borough to acquire a police vehicle and necessary equipment, and $68,310 for the Benton Municipal Water and Sewer Authority for a vehicle purchase. Briar Creek Township will receive $127,767 for a maintenance vehicle and $27,476 for police department equipment upgrades. Catawissa Borough will install security cameras with $84,870, and its Municipal Authority will use $13,186 for a generator. Catawissa Township is set to purchase a combination tractor, mower, and snowplow with $220,028. Additionally, Mifflin Township will receive $117,670 to replace a deteriorated local bridge.

Furthermore, four school districts will also benefit from this funding. Columbia Montour Area Vocational Technical School receives $700,000 for ADA compliance and various health, safety, and infrastructure upgrades. Berwick Area School District’s Berwick Middle School will see $581,250 for roof replacement. Benton Area School District is granted $100,000 for safety upgrades at LR Appleman Elementary School. Bloomsburg Area School District is allotted $100,000 for an HVAC project at W.W. Evans Elementary School.

These funds are administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency ensuring fiduciary responsibilities for Pennsylvania's economic growth.
