Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver has announced that over $2 million in state grants have been approved for various projects within the 27th Senate District. The funding aims to support community development and improve residents' quality of life.
"This is a significant amount of state dollars that will be used to support projects in our communities to benefit local residents," stated Culver. "This funding will help improve our neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life for the people in our district."
In Columbia County, Catawissa Borough has been allocated $100,000 for an aeration tank remediation project at its wastewater treatment plant. Rep. Robert Leadbeter expressed optimism about these investments, stating, "Thinking of hardworking families, seniors, and small businesses who proudly call Columbia County their home, I’m encouraged to see fiscally responsible investments in tangible infrastructure projects being made within our local communities."
Northumberland County will receive more than $1.2 million spread across seven grants. Projects include water system upgrades by Herndon Borough Jackson Township Joint Municipal Authority and Lower Mahanoy Township Municipal Authority, public works equipment purchases in Milton Borough, and construction efforts by Northumberland County Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area Authority and the City of Sunbury.
Rep. Joanne Stehr remarked on the collaborative effort behind securing these funds: "Senator Schlegel-Culver was happy to advocate and work together with me to secure approval of the grant applications for this funding."
Snyder County's two projects will receive over $350,000 combined. The Perry Township Municipal Authority plans a wastewater treatment plant project while Selinsgrove Borough intends to purchase a ladder truck for Dauntless Hook and Ladder Company.
"Our volunteer fire companies give so much to our communities," said Rep. David Rowe. "I’m honored to work with Senator Culver and give back to this department that works so hard to provide service to the residents of Selinsgrove and Snyder County."
The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) Local Share Account program is providing this funding using gaming revenue aimed at supporting public interest projects statewide.
Three additional grants were sanctioned through another CFA initiative. Benton Borough received $75,000 for road resurfacing in Columbia County while Montandon Development Group was awarded $425,000 for transportation improvements along Route 45 in Northumberland County.
"The commonwealth is supporting local projects and delivering significant financial resources to move forward with these initiatives," added Culver.
