State Senator Lynda Culver | Pennsylvania
State Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver has been appointed to the board of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). This appointment, made by Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, will last until June 30, 2027. Culver aims to use her position to address the student loan debt affecting students and graduates in Pennsylvania.
“I’ve heard from constituents across our district that student loan debt is placing an unbearable burden on people as they leave college and begin their careers,” Culver stated. “Many young graduates fear they will never be able to pay back the debt they accrued to earn their education.”
PHEAA was established by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1963 to provide affordable access to higher education for students and families within the state. The agency offers various financial aid services, including PA Forward, a state-based student loan program. Additionally, PHEAA supports millions of students through guaranty services, financial aid processing, and other programs.
The earnings generated by PHEAA contribute to its public service mission and cover operating costs such as administering the PA State Grant Program and other state-funded student aid initiatives. This financial contribution helps save the commonwealth millions of dollars each year.
