Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver and Rep. Mike Cabell have announced a state grant of $520,000 for the Salem Township stormwater project in Luzerne County. The grant, awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), will be used to upgrade the stormwater system in the area.
"State resources like this grant can help pay for a large project that otherwise might place a significant burden on local taxpayers," said Sen. Culver. "I look forward to the completion of this project and the positive benefits it will provide for travelers along this road. Local families and businesses that depend on this road will benefit from this state investment."
The grant will specifically go towards the first phase of construction for road stormwater improvements along Shickshinny Valley Road. Rep. Cabell expressed the importance of the funding, stating, "I have worked closely with the Salem Township supervisors since taking office, and I know how important this funding is for them. I consistently hear about infrastructure needs from the many rural communities I represent, and I will continue to fight for their fair share of dollars from Harrisburg."
The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to administer the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages. The funding for this project is being delivered through the DCED Multimodal Transportation Fund grant program, which aims to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable transportation system for commonwealth residents.
This grant represents a significant investment in the infrastructure of Salem Township, benefiting both residents and businesses in the area. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the community, providing essential upgrades to the stormwater system.
