Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver and Rep. Robert Leadbeter have announced a $100,000 state grant that will be used to improve Bloomsburg Town Park. The grant, funded by Marcellus Shale impact fee revenue, will help develop and rehabilitate the court at the park.
Culver emphasized the importance of this grant in reinvesting revenue back into the local community. She stated, "The grant money will help improve Bloomsburg Town Park, which brings generations of residents together to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. The state money will ensure this project can be funded without placing any additional burden on local taxpayers."
The $100,000 grant was awarded to the Town of Bloomsburg through the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. This program provides grants for the development of outdoor recreational spaces and requires the applicant to fund 15% of the total project cost.
Leadbeter, representing the 109th District, highlighted the importance of outdoor recreation in the community. He said, "The foundation of Columbia County is based on strong conservative values, and these grant dollars will continue to enhance our family values and the appreciation and access to the outdoors for years to come."
The funding for this program comes from the 2012 law that established an impact fee on Marcellus Shale natural gas wells. The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
This $100,000 grant will greatly benefit Bloomsburg Town Park and its residents, providing them with improved recreational facilities. The investment in outdoor spaces demonstrates the commitment of Culver and Leadbeter to the community and their desire to enhance the quality of life for its residents.
