Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver and Rep. Michael Stender have announced the allocation of over $1.3 million in state grants for local water infrastructure projects. The grants, funded by the federal COVID-19 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), will be disbursed through the H20 PA Program and the PA Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program.
Culver expressed her enthusiasm for the grants, stating, "These grants are a significant investment in the quality of life of local residents. Maintaining water and sewer systems is one of the core functions of government. These grants are an example of the federal, state, and local governments working together to fulfill our commitment to local residents."
Stender also expressed his gratitude for the grant funding, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the community. He said, "This opportunity to upgrade some of our water and sewer systems is a game changer. Not only is it an investment, but also a commitment to the well-being of our community for years to come."
The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The CFA administers the commonwealth's economic stimulus packages and plays a crucial role in funding infrastructure projects.
The H20 PA Program, established in 2008, provides grants for the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer projects, as well as flood control projects and the repair of unsafe dams. The program supports both single-year and multi-year projects.
The SWS Program, administered through the federal COVID-19 ARPA funds, provides grants specifically for small water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects. Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain public water supply, sanitary sewer, or stormwater systems are eligible to apply for these grants.
The funding for these grants is part of the ongoing efforts to improve water infrastructure across Pennsylvania. By investing in these projects, the state aims to ensure the availability of safe and reliable water resources for its residents.
These grants represent a collaborative effort between different levels of government and highlight the commitment to the well-being and quality of life of local communities. With this funding, Pennsylvania is taking important steps towards the sustainable development and maintenance of its water infrastructure.
