State Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver has announced that Prehistoric Journeys, a company based in Sunbury, will be hosting a dinosaur display at the state Capitol. The display will take place in the Main Rotunda on Wednesday, December 13, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The event aims to provide an interactive experience for children, parents, teachers, and the public.

The highlight of the display will be a six-foot tall dinosaur upper leg bone, specifically from a Diplodocus dinosaur from the late Jurassic period. The Diplodocus was a herbivore dinosaur that measured approximately 72 feet long. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the fossil bone up close and even take photographs with it.

Senator Culver expressed her excitement about the event, stating, "This is a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy an interactive experience with a dinosaur bone. Most of us learned about dinosaurs as children and we light up seeing our children and grandchildren learning about these mysterious creatures from the past. I’m honored to work with the team at Prehistoric Journeys in Sunbury to make this display possible for the people of Pennsylvania."

Barry James, a vertebrate paleontologist and the owner of Prehistoric Journeys, will be present at the Capitol to discuss dinosaurs and answer questions. He emphasized the joy that viewing fossil bones brings to children, stating, "Viewing the fossil bones of prehistoric creatures up close always generates happiness for kids. The joy shows in their eyes and smiling faces."

In addition to the dinosaur display, Prehistoric Journeys is also working on a Triceratops skeleton, which is their 159th fossil project of dinosaurs and extinct mammals. Senator Culver worked closely with Barry and April James, as well as the staff at the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, to coordinate and schedule this display.

The event will coincide with the presence of the Capitol Christmas tree in the Main Rotunda, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees. More information about Senator Culver can be found on her website, SenatorCulver.com, and residents can also follow her on Facebook for updates about legislative action in Harrisburg and news in the 27th District.
