State Rep. Michael Stender (R-Northumberland/Montour) is organizing a Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment and Retention seminar to address the need for attracting and retaining volunteer fire and EMS members. The seminar, which will take place on Monday, Dec. 11, at Northumberland Borough Hall, aims to provide municipal leaders, fire chiefs, and EMS administrators with valuable insights and best practices in this area.
Stender, who is a career and volunteer firefighter himself, is encouraging anyone interested in volunteering with their local fire service organizations to attend the seminar. He believes it is an excellent opportunity for attendees to ask questions, gain knowledge about local fire departments, and engage with experienced firefighters. Stender stated, "A firefighter's purpose is to ensure the safety of not only our own but of others' loved ones in emergency situations. If anyone shares that same purpose, I strongly encourage you to register for this event."
The seminar will feature a presentation by Jerry Ozog, the executive director of the PA Fire and Emergency Services Institute. Ozog will provide a comprehensive overview of modern recruitment and retention strategies for fire service organizations. By sharing his expertise, he aims to equip attendees with the necessary tools to attract and retain volunteer firefighters effectively.
To register for the seminar, interested individuals can call 570-286-5885 or visit Stender's website at repstender.com/events. Municipal leaders, fire chiefs, and EMS administrators are particularly encouraged to attend to learn about the best practices in volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention.
The event is expected to be a valuable resource for communities grappling with the ongoing challenge of maintaining sufficient volunteer firefighter numbers. By addressing this issue head-on and providing practical insights, Rep. Stender hopes to strengthen the local fire service organizations and ensure the safety of the community.
