For the past two years Mark Mahosky has been working on a series of small paintings and sculptures incorporating a vocabulary of ships, trees, flowers, planes, distant smoke, and ghostly figures. His work incorporates these images to comment on the current state of politics in the US by alluding to similar moments in the history of empires, nations, and other forms of perceived power. Historical consciousness of art, culture, and events has been a steady component in Mahosky’s art for over 30 years. Mahosky has shown nationally and has been represented by the Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia since 1986. He is a professor of painting at Kutztown University and resides in both Mifflinburg and Kutztown.
