How to Assist with the Food Cupboard's Annual Drive on May 14

Food

Saint Columba Catholic Church - Bloomsburg recently issued the following announcement.

HOW TO ASSIST WITH THE FOOD CUPBOARD’S ANNUAL DRIVE - MAY 14

The Bloomsburg Food Cupboard and our letter carriers need your help any or all of Saturday, May 14. This national food drive stocks food pantry shelves for the summer months and is vital to our ability to provide summer food to our clients. We have missed this 10-12,000 pounds of food the last two years and are grateful the drive is back. The university also participates with us as students donate food as they move out.

Here’s what you can do:

1. We need people to run mail routes to help the carriers pick up quite literally tons of food. We meet behind the post office at 9 a.m. If you don’t have a partner, we will pair you up with someone nice.

2. We need sorters, packers, and luggers at the Food Cupboard for any length of time between 11:30-5 or whenever the last carrier comes in. If you can come at the end – 3 or 3:30, you will be a hero. If you come at the beginning, you will still be a hero. Children are welcome as they can help and add to the fun.

3. This is the one time of the year you can donate to us and have your food picked up for you. No bags left at the door! No cans rolling around your car! You should be getting a postcard if you live in 17815 but if you don’t, please put food out anyway. Other pantries also participate in this food drive so if you are not 17815, you may be asked to contribute to this good cause.

If you know you are coming, it’s helpful for us to know. Don’t let that keep you from showing up. Lunch is served.
