Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) announced that more than $7.9 million in state grant funding has been allocated for transportation and water infrastructure projects across the 27th Senatorial District. The funds, totaling $7,910,469, were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the Multimodal Transportation Fund and the Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program. These grants are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and will benefit municipalities and authorities in Columbia, Luzerne, Montour, Northumberland, and Snyder counties.

“This funding will support transportation and water infrastructure projects across the district,” said Senator Culver. “By advancing projects that improve infrastructure and connectivity, we can support safe, reliable services that residents depend on. I value the collaboration with my House colleagues as we take the next step in this process of building a stronger commonwealth.”

Local representatives also commented on the significance of these investments for their communities.

“This news comes as a result of me continuing to deliver on the commitments I made to Columbia County residents,” said Rep. Leadbeter. “Through relentless advocation and conservative common sense, taxpayer dollars are coming home to help improve the quality of life in the places we call home.”

“Investing in our communities is so important for the stability and safety of our infrastructure,” said Rep. Ryncavage. “I am pleased to work with Sen. Culver on our shared vision to improve our local municipalities and give them the tools they need to better service our residents.”

“These grants are an important tool for strengthening our communities,” said Rep. Stehr. “By supporting local water and transportation projects, we help ensure our residents have safe, reliable infrastructure and resources that improve daily life. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these projects will have across our community.”

“I’m grateful to see this funding awarded to two important infrastructure projects in our region,” said Rep. Stender. “The upgrades at the Sunbury Water Treatment Plant and the sewer extension project in Washingtonville will both improve service reliability and protect public health. These are smart investments that make a direct impact for local residents, and I’m proud to support them.”

“Supporting local infrastructure is essential for the health, safety, and economic vitality of our region,” said Rep. Rowe. “The projects in the boroughs of Selinsgrove, Freeburg, Middleburg, and McClure, as well as Perry Township will improve roads, bridges, pedestrian access, and water systems, ensuring our communities remain strong for the future while also saving local governments money and preventing the need for tax increases. I’m grateful for the partnership with Sen. Schlegel-Culver to deliver these funds to our districts.”

“I’m pleased this funding was awarded for both Black Creek and Butler townships to assist with needed roadway improvements,” said Rep. Walsh. “Making these necessary upgrades is expensive and these grants go a long way in assisting our local governments with making our roads safer for both motorists and pedestrians.”

The grants from both programs are intended to address key needs such as road improvements, bridge repairs, pedestrian access enhancements, upgrades at water treatment plants like Sunbury’s facility, sewer extensions in areas such as Washingtonville, as well as other critical updates throughout multiple boroughs including Selinsgrove, Freeburg, Middleburg, McClure, Perry Township along with Black Creek and Butler townships.

Funding approval was provided by the Commonwealth Financing Authority under oversight from state agencies responsible for economic development.
