State Representative Robert Leadbeter (R-Columbia) is set to discuss new legislation aimed at improving the search process for missing individuals with cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disabilities. The proposed measure, referred to as “Aiden’s Law” or the “Purple Alert,” seeks to establish a rapid notification system that would provide immediate and coordinated alerts to both law enforcement and the public.

The initiative is modeled after Pennsylvania’s existing Amber and Silver Alert programs, which are used for missing children and older adults, respectively. Leadbeter stated that his plan addresses a gap in the current emergency response framework. “Leadbeter’s plan is designed to close a gap in the state’s emergency response network and give families peace of mind when every minute matters.”

The announcement will take place on Friday, Oct. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Leadbeter’s Berwick District Office.
