The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has recognized Lisa Holtz, MD, with its GRMC Shining Star Award for Educational Innovation. Dr. Holtz serves as the regional associate dean for the Northeast at Geisinger School of Medicine.

The award was presented on June 2 during the GRMC Regional Conference in Kansas City. The Group on Regional Medical Campuses (GRMC), part of AAMC, focuses on professional growth and development among administrators, staff, and faculty of regional medical campuses. It acknowledges the crucial role these campuses play in training future doctors.

The “Star” awards highlight significant contributions by regional medical campuses in developing programs that benefit students and strengthen community ties. The Star of Educational Innovation is awarded to a campus that demonstrates sustainable educational impact through innovative education models. These models should provide value-added experiences to complement medical curricula and employ research methodologies to establish evidence-based standards.

Dr. Holtz expressed her pride in Geisinger’s regional campuses being seen as a national model: “I’m proud that Geisinger’s regional campuses have become a model for schools nationwide,” she said. She noted that the award highlights how these campuses enhance population health focus and add value to the student experience: “Our medical school has been an innovator in medical education since its founding.”

Geisinger College of Health Sciences emphasizes innovation and purpose in educating future healthcare leaders, focusing on discovery, hands-on learning, and applied practice across their system.
