Eight Geisinger hospitals have been acknowledged as Recognized Leaders in Caring for People Living with Diabetes by The Leapfrog Group, in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This national designation highlights hospitals that adhere to ADA and other nationally published guidelines to provide safe and high-quality care for inpatients with diabetes. Geisinger emerged as the most recognized organization among 33 hospitals nationwide.

The Geisinger hospitals receiving this recognition include: Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital, Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Geisinger Medical Center Muncy, Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital, and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.

The award acknowledges each hospital’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of hospitalized individuals living with diabetes. “This recognition represents the culmination of our collective efforts to improve the lives of our patients with diabetes,” stated Brian Jameson, D.O., director of endocrinology at Geisinger. He added appreciation for colleagues who have integrated improved diabetes care into the organization’s culture.

The designation program evaluates hospitals based on their management of diabetic patients during admission, stay, and discharge. It aligns with ADA’s Standards of Care in Diabetes — 2025 and Leapfrog’s standards for excellence in hospital safety and quality.

Recognized hospitals excel through various protocols including blood glucose testing, hypoglycemia management, specialized preparation for surgery, insulin regimen planning, and discharge planning for high-risk patients. Hospitals are assessed on their implementation of these processes and how well they deliver care to a sample of patients.
