Geisinger College’s School of Medicine will host a TEDx event in Scranton on Thursday, Oct. 2, focusing on the theme of “fostering humility.” The event is scheduled to take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Medical Sciences Building located at 525 Pine St.

Seven speakers are set to share their perspectives on humility and its role in fields such as science, medicine, and education. Calvin Kiniale, an MD student from Geisinger’s Class of 2027 and the event planner, said, “For far too many of us, humility is equated with being weak or lacking confidence. We want to challenge that idea and showcase humility as a great strength that empowers you to connect with others and embrace lifelong learning. We are looking for speakers who will explore humility in science, medicine and education. Our goal is to spark thought-provoking conversations on the topic.”

TEDx talks are modeled after TED events but are organized locally. These talks aim to encourage discussion within communities by presenting ideas rather than promoting products or services. Each speaker’s presentation will be limited to no more than 18 minutes.

Geisinger College of Health Sciences serves as the academic branch of Geisinger and provides programs including research institutes, graduate medical education, schools for medicine and nursing, as well as faculty development opportunities across its system.
