Geisinger Life Flight has received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS), recognizing its standards in patient care and safety for medical transport services.
The CAMTS accreditation is awarded to programs that meet or exceed a set of rigorous and regularly updated criteria, ensuring both patient and staff safety during medical transport.
“CAMTS accreditation reinforces Geisinger’s commitment to safe, high-quality care for every patient under our care,” said David Schoenwetter, DO, division chief hospital medicine, Geisinger. “Our team works tirelessly to be a leader in our communities and provide comprehensive air transportation to our patients in their most dire times of need.”
Geisinger Life Flight operates from seven base sites throughout central and northeastern Pennsylvania. The service handles more than 4,400 transports each year, including both emergency responses and interhospital transfers. In 2025, the program marked over 92,000 emergency air transports since it began operations 40 years ago.
Geisinger is a nonprofit healthcare system serving approximately 1.2 million people across central and northeastern Pennsylvania through its network of hospitals and care sites. The organization employs more than 27,000 people and contributes significantly to the state’s economy. In 2024, Geisinger became part of Risant Health as part of an effort to expand value-based care nationwide. More information about Geisinger can be found at geisinger.org.
