Geisinger Lewistown Hospital has been named a high-performing hospital in the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings. The publication evaluates hospitals across 15 adult specialties and assesses their performance in various surgical procedures and medical conditions. Geisinger Lewistown Hospital received two recognitions for high performance in specific procedures and conditions.

“This elite recognition is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our entire team,” said Sabrina Sumner, D.O., chief medical officer of Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. “Being named among the best hospitals from across the country affirms our commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care. We’re proud to serve our community with excellence each and every day.”

The hospital, established in 1908, currently has 43 private patient rooms. Plans are underway for a $5.1 million expansion project that will increase this number to 61 by summer 2026.

Geisinger Lewistown Hospital is one of four facilities within its health system recognized by U.S. News & World Report this year. Other honored sites include Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings consider factors such as patient outcomes, overall patient experience, staffing levels, and other metrics when evaluating hospitals nationwide.

Geisinger operates as a nonprofit healthcare provider serving central and northeastern Pennsylvania through more than 163 care sites and ten hospital campuses. It employs over 27,000 people statewide and joined Risant Health in 2024.
