Geisinger is organizing an emergency medical technician (EMT) apprenticeship job fair on June 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital in Coal Township. This initiative aligns with Geisinger’s commitment to enhancing local emergency medical services.

The EMT apprenticeship program spans 13 weeks and offers full-time paid training at Geisinger’s Danville and Wilkes-Barre locations. The seventh cohort of the program is set to commence on August 25. Upon completing the program and obtaining EMT certification, participants will secure full-time positions at Geisinger facilities in Shamokin, Danville, and Berwick.

Prospective candidates for the program must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, hold a valid driver’s license, and have a desire to help people and learn. Registration for the job fair is not required; however, questions can be directed to Stephanie Lagerman, Geisinger’s senior recruiter, via email at slagerman@geisinger.edu.

The event will take place in the hospital’s administration building across from its main entrance.

Geisinger is recognized as one of the nation’s leading providers of value-based care, serving over 1.2 million individuals across central and northeastern Pennsylvania. Founded by philanthropist Abigail Geisinger in 1915, this nonprofit system generates more than $8 billion annually through its operations across various sites including ten hospital campuses. It also operates the Geisinger Health Plan which serves over half a million members under commercial and government plans.

With more than 27,000 employees including around 1,800 physicians and over 5,200 registered nurses, Geisinger ranks among Pennsylvania’s largest employers with an estimated economic impact of $16.8 billion on the state’s economy. In addition to healthcare services, it educates over 5,000 medical professionals each year through its College of Health Sciences while conducting more than 1,400 clinical research studies.

In 2024, Geisinger joined Risant Health — a nonprofit organization focused on expanding value-based care nationwide.
