Geisinger has expanded its offering of 3D mammography across its service area, enhancing access to advanced breast cancer detection technology. The systemwide availability aims to improve patient outcomes by allowing more accurate detection of breast abnormalities, including small tumors that might not be visible on traditional 2D mammograms.

“Having 3D mammography across the system allows us to increase patient access and improve patient outcomes,” stated Timothy Murphy, M.D., director of women’s imaging at Geisinger. He added that patients would no longer need to travel outside the Geisinger service area for state-of-the-art breast imaging.

The advanced technology provides a more detailed view, reducing the need for additional imaging and minimizing false-positive results. Facilities offering this service include Geisinger Healthplex Woodbine Lane, Susquehanna Valley Imaging, Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital, among others.

Appointments can be scheduled through MyGeisinger or the MyChart mobile app or by calling 800-275-6401. More information is available at geisinger.org/breastimaging.

Geisinger is a leading provider of value-based care in central and northeastern Pennsylvania, serving over 1.2 million people.
