The intensive care unit (ICU) and progressive care unit (PCU) at Geisinger Community Medical Center have been recognized with Beacon Awards for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The ICU received a silver-level award, while the PCU earned a bronze-level award.
The Beacon Award for Excellence acknowledges caregivers who improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s 6 Healthy Work Environment Standards. The ICU and PCU at Geisinger Community Medical Center provide critical care to patients requiring intensive or step-down care.
“These awards are a testament to the strength and devotion of our bedside teams,” said Megan Walbeck, associate vice president of nursing at Geisinger Community Medical Center. “The leadership our bedside nurses bring to their units as they collaborate to care for some of our most complex patient conditions speaks to their expertise and their compassion for others.”
Geisinger’s participation in the Beacon Award program allows its critical-care units to compare performances globally. Award-winning units excel in patient outcomes, nursing workforce, and work environment.
In addition to these recognitions, other Geisinger facilities have also been awarded. Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s ICU holds a silver-level Beacon Award designation, and its PCU has achieved gold-level recognition.
Geisinger is a leading provider of value-based care serving over 1.2 million people across Pennsylvania. Founded in 1915 by Abigail Geisinger, it operates numerous healthcare facilities and employs thousands across the state.
