FOIA Request to Northumberland County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.
As a team at North Central PA Times, we are committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. We recently submitted a request for records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., specifically seeking pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the county’s elections.
The request was made in line with our duty as a media organization to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. We believe that access to these records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
The information requested includes the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (pass or fail) of each voting machine tested before the election. We have asked for this information in PDF format.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We will continue striving to ensure that public institutions remain transparent and accountable in their operations.
We await a response from the Northumberland County Election Department regarding our request.
