More than $1.75 million in state funding has been allocated to Columbia County for eight improvement projects, according to an announcement from Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-109) and Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27).
“This news comes as a result of me continuing to deliver on the commitments I made to Columbia County residents,” said Leadbeter. “Through relentless advocation and conservative common sense, taxpayer dollars are coming home to help improve the quality of life in the places we call home.”
Culver added, “This funding will support transportation and water infrastructure projects across the district. By advancing projects that improve infrastructure and connectivity, we can support safe, reliable services that residents depend on. I value the collaboration with my House colleagues as we take the next step in this process of building a stronger commonwealth.”
The state grants come from two programs: the Pennsylvania Water and Sewer Program and the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF). All applications submitted by Columbia County municipalities for water and sewer improvements were fully funded.
Allocations from the Pennsylvania Water and Sewer Program include:
– Montour Township Board of Supervisors received $323,000 for upgrades at Pump Station No. 4.
– Municipal Authority of the Town of Bloomsburg was awarded $280,330 to replace pumps at its wastewater treatment plant.
– The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Catawissa obtained $134,730 for electrical wiring upgrades at its main facility.
– The Town of Bloomsburg received $69,176 for installation of hydrodynamic structures along Ninth Street.
Projects funded through the MTF are:
– Berwick Borough: $300,000 for road improvements.
– Briar Creek Township: $300,000 to replace two bridges on Yost Hollow Road.
– Town of Bloomsburg: $300,000 to widen Route 11 near Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.
– Catawissa Township: $50,000 for reconstruction work on McIntyre Road.
The Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program provides grants between $30,000 and $500,000 for municipal water-related projects such as construction or repair of water supply systems or flood control measures. The Multimodal Transportation Fund supports development or enhancement of transportation assets within communities.
