Legislation that proposes naming a section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway in Snyder County as the Joseph McGranaghan Memorial Highway has been passed and is now awaiting the Governor’s approval. This initiative, led by Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver, was incorporated into Senate Bill 78, an omnibus transportation bill. Originally introduced as Senate Bill 365 by Culver, the provision designates a part of U.S. Route 15 in Monroe Township and Shamokin Dam Borough as the Joseph McGranaghan Memorial Highway.
The designated area extends from the interchange with U.S. Routes 11/15 and U.S. Route 522 north of Selinsgrove to the interchange with U.S. Route 15 and PA Route 147 south of Winfield.
Senator Culver remarked on the significance of this dedication: “Joe McGranaghan served his community with distinction for more than 30 years, including as Mayor of Shamokin Dam,” she said. “This designation is a fitting tribute to his legacy of leadership, integrity, and public service. I’m proud to see this recognition advancing to the Governor’s desk.”
Joseph McGranaghan had a notable career in public service, contributing significantly through roles on the Shamokin Dam Borough Council and various regional planning organizations. His efforts were pivotal in shaping policies related to transportation, land use, and economic development and played a crucial role in advancing the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway project.
The passage of Senate Bill 78 now requires only the Governor’s signature to become law.
