A group of House members in Pennsylvania has put forth a comprehensive package of bills designed to protect individuals who wish to dispute child pronoun requests. The proposed legislation aims to safeguard freedom of speech and conscience, ensuring that individuals can express their First Amendment rights without fear of discrimination or retribution.

Representative Robert Leadbeter emphasized the importance of the bills in preserving parental authority and freedom of speech. He stated, “These bills support freedom of speech and overall parental authority, especially when speaking with children. It’s about safeguarding families from government officials and bureaucrats pushing divisive agendas and undermining our conservative values as a direct attack on the family unit. Parental rights will continue to be something I fight for every day.”

The package of bills includes measures such as granting civil immunity to parents who refuse to use their child's preferred pronouns or consent to gender-affirming medical services. Representative Leadbeter also highlighted that the legislation would prevent a parent's refusal to refer to their child by preferred pronouns from being considered in custody matters.

Representative Rob Kauffman underscored the importance of protecting individuals' freedom of speech, stating, “No person should be taken to court for refusing to use a pronoun for a person that does not correspond to their biological gender.” He emphasized that the bills aim to prevent individuals from facing legal actions that pressure them to conform to a particular social narrative.

Additionally, Representative Joe D’Orsie emphasized that the package of bills is about defending parents and teachers and upholding their First Amendment rights. He stated, “What can’t fade into the periphery is that this package of bills is about free speech and defending parents and teachers. We know how the legacy media sees this issue and the labels they have for anyone who dares to question the agenda; the bottom line is the First Amendment rights of our parents and teachers supersede their social activism.”

The proposed legislation seeks to protect individuals' rights to express their beliefs and values without facing repercussions. By addressing concerns surrounding compelled speech and parental authority, the House members behind this initiative aim to uphold constitutional rights and promote freedom of expression.
